Poem : Umiam

Image
(A poem on Umiam Lake of Meghalaya ,India) Though today the sky is cloudy, Light and shadow softly play. Umiam ---- around you gathers A fair of trees in green array. A gentle breeze flows calm and sweet, Waves rise with a murmuring sound. My soul finds peace beholding you ---- As though someone lit joy all around. At the call of birds, My heart longs to drift away. My eyes are filled with your beauty --- I wish to return someday. O Umiam , O Umiam I wish to come again someday. -------------- Poet : Dr. Goutam Kumar Mallick

Poem : Thank You, Mr. Einstein

Mr. Einstein, A million thanks to you. Since my birth, Everything I have seen --- All is relative. Winter -- Summer -- Monsoon, Mountains ---- Rivers -- Fields, High tide --- Low tide, Even relationship too. On the pages of history, Kings turn into beggars, Beggars rise as kings --- All is relative. Success is relative, Faliure too, Awaiting only The right time and chance. I believe, The one who glares at me today Will one day beg for mercy ----- For in the end, All is relative. ------------- Poet : Dr. Goutam Kumar Mallick

Poem : Human Organs

Hair : The comb conducts its raid here. Head : The root cause of every pain. Forehead : All faults are piled onto it. Eyebrows : Must wrinkle to show surprise. Eyes : The prime organ for glaring. Nose : Useful for poking in without need. Ears : The most humiliating organ. Neck : Best suited for a shove. Lips : Specially made for kissing. Mouth : The organ for wearing masks. Cheeks : A gentle pinch makes it affection. Chest : A deep -freez for hoarding sorrows. Hands : The place where handcuffs fit. Fingers : With a flick, much can happen. Stomach : The master key to all development. Buttocks : The finest spot for a kick. Knees  : The organ to enjoy rheumatic pain. Legs : The organ meant for tripping others. Bones: The rascal hides here. Spine : A sprain here brings profit in the end. ---------------- Poet : Dr. Goutam Kumar Mallick

Poem : The Level Crossing Ahead

Ahead of you lies a level crossing, A train may come your way, Why stay blind though eyes are open -- Use you brain today. At home a little child awaits, Who will care if you are gone ? Your house of joy, your home of peace Will drown if you're withdrawn. Your sky of dreams is filled with hope, Your child will grow one day ----- Would you depart in middle now And leave him cast away ? The road too has its rules of walk, Learn them ,hold them near, If you wish to avoid mishaps, Follow  them with care. ------------------ Poet : Dr.Goutam Kumar Mallick

Poem :Love and Marriage

Is it written anywhere That love must end in marriage? Some love lifelong Without ever marring ! And some marry, yet keep distributing to love everywhere. For some, only through marriage The flower of love blooms, For others, There is marriage but no love. Then, to them, the word love Feels strangely meaningless. -------------------- Poet : Dr.Goutam kumar Mallick

Poem : In Search of Your Smiling Face

( In memory of Astronaut Kalpana Chawla) One day you looked up at the sky from the earth, One day your dreams touched the stars in the sky. Was it that you loved the sky so deeply That you choose to remain there forever? Today, just once, look down from the sky to the earth ----- All the flowers have slipped from our hands. With tear - filled eyes, everyone gazes upward, Among the stars of the sky Searching for your smiling face. --/--/-/--- Poet : Dr.Goutam kumar Mallick

poem : Silent Exchange

If I lose my work, no one else is ruined. Ruined are only my wife, My aged mother , my old father, and my infant child. And yet , I rush to rallies, even at the cost of my own work, so that some 'special ' one may not face destruction. But I do not think , not even once ---- if I do not go, then he himself will come rushing To save my work.

Poem : O First Scientist

On the path you showed, we boarded buses, trains And airplanes, And reached the land of the atom bomb. Today we can reach the moon, none will be amazed if we set foot on mars. We can give life, yet remain busy in the game of taking lives. The mask of civilization falls away in a sudden gust of wind. O first scientist, was it not you who sowed the seed of civilization ? Come again plant a tender sapling anew --- not outside, but deep within our veins, let civilization bloom in blood. ----------------------- Poet : Dr.Goutam Kumar Mallick
